BB King, the King of Blues, dies at 89
The "King of the Blues", guitarist and singer BB King, has died aged 89.
King, known for his hits My Lucille, Sweet Little Angel and Rock Me Baby, died in his sleep in Las Vegas.
Born in Mississippi, King began performing in the 1940s, going on to influence a generation of musicians, and working with Eric Clapton and U2.
Once ranked as the third greatest guitarist of all time, he had been suffering ill health in recent months.
He was recently taken to hospital with a diabetes-related illness.
Fellow musicians paid tribute to King including blues guitarist Buddy Guy, who often played with him.
"BB King was the greatest guy I ever met," he wrote on Instagram.
"The tone he got out of that guitar, the way he shook his left wrist, the way he squeezed the strings… man, he came out with that and it was all new to whole guitar playin' world.
"He could play so smooth, he didn't have to put on a show. The way BB did it is the way we all do it now. He was my best friend and father to us all."
Lenny Kravitz who tweeted: "BB, anyone could play a thousand notes and never say what you said in one."
Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora added: "My friend and legend BB King passed. I'm so so sad, he was so great to me. We've lost the King. My love and prayers to his family."
Former Beatle Ringo Starr tweeted: "God bless BB King, peace and love to his family."
Actor Hugh Laurie said: "Oh God. BB King. Let the sad times roll."
And singer Will Young added: "BB King- the most wonderful blues singer and guitarist. I suggest everyone gets one of his records to hear true soul and spirit."
A former farmhand, King was awarded his 15th Grammy award in 2009 for his album One Kind Favor. He was also inducted into both the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Rolling Stone magazine placed him behind only Jimi Hendrix and Duane Allman in its list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time.
Until recently, King performed in at least 100 concerts a year.
'Heartfelt vocals'
He fused together both jazz and blues on his beloved guitar, a Gibson ES-355 he lovingly dubbed "Lucille".
In the early part of his career, he played to exclusively black audiences, but his heartfelt vocals and undeniable talent saw him embraced by a much broader fanbase as time went on - touring Europe and topping the charts.
Younger musicians such as Clapton and Steve Miller, who admired his work, introduced him to a new generation of fans in the late '60s with hits like The Thrill is Gone.
Albums such as Live at County Cook Jail and BB King in London followed.
His career was reignited in the late 1980s when he duetted with U2 on When Love Comes To Town.
At the turn of the millennium, aged 75, he once again achieved major commercial success with the Eric Clapton collaboration Riding With the King.
"King's is now the name most synonymous with the blues, much as Louis Armstrong's once was with jazz," critic Francis Davis wrote in his 1995 book The History of the Blues. "You don't have to be a blues fan to have heard of King."

Το Wouldn't It Be Nice, το παραδοσιακό Sloop John B και το Caroline No είναι μερικά από τα κομψοτεχνήματα του δίσκου και φυσικά το God Only Knows, που είναι το αγαπημένο τραγούδι του Πολ Μακάρτνεϊ των Beatles.

The 3 rules that helped create ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’
“Mad Max: Fury Road” presents a chaotic, post-apocalyptic world onscreen. Off-screen, however, things were a bit more orderly.
Writer-director George Miller insisted that everything in the film — the costumes, the vehicles, the out-there sets — had to fit into a cohesive vision.
“Everybody had to work to the same ground rules,” Miller says. “There was a unified aesthetic.”
The movie, which hits theaters Thursday night, is basically a two-hour chase scene. Nearly 50 years after the world’s collapse, drifter Max (Tom Hardy) teams with rig driver Furiosa (Charlize Theron) to rescue five young women from the clutches of a sadistic warlord (Hugh Keays-Byrne).
Here are Miller’s three ground rules for building the movie’s unique world.
1. Every item has a story
Modal Trigger
“Everything had to be from found objects, repurposed,” Miller says. “And each piece has to have a logic that explained how it survived the apocalypse, whether a weapon, a pair of glasses, or Furiosa’s mechanical arm.”
“Everything had to be from found objects, repurposed,” Miller says. “And each piece has to have a logic that explained how it survived the apocalypse, whether a weapon, a pair of glasses, or Furiosa’s mechanical arm.”
Mass production no longer exists, so the objects that have survived the apocalypse have to be durable. That means the vehicles all date from the pre-1980s, before computer technology became standard and when cars remained reasonably easy to repair.
2. Artistic expression still exists
Modal Trigger
“Just because it’s the wasteland, that doesn’t mean people stop making beautiful things,” Miller says. “I went to one of the poorest townships in Africa, and I noticed people were making beautiful toys out of wire. When you look at Paleolithic men, they make beautiful rock drawings.”

So even though the world of Mad Max is dusty and violent, there are still glimpses of beauty. For example, the Doof Warrior (Iota), who plays metal guitar atop a truck loaded with speakers, was fitted with a custom axe made from an old bedpan. The instrument also shoots flames from its neck.
3. The apocalypse can be funny
Modal Trigger
As crazy as it sounds when you’re talking about a movie about the end of the world, it had to have humor.
As crazy as it sounds when you’re talking about a movie about the end of the world, it had to have humor.
“Here we are in this dark, crazy world, and it’s human nature for that to bring out a kind of insane, celebratory quality,” Miller says. “There’s a hysteria best described by Nux’s (Nicholas Hoult) line [‘What a lovely day!’] in the middle of a toxic storm as vehicles are being swept up into the air. For him, dying in this tornado of dust and fire is the loveliest possible day there could be.’’

Γαϊτάνη, στο διάστημα από 17 έως και 30 Ιουλίου θα πραγματοποιήθούν τέσσερις πτήσεις back to back, μεταξύ Θεσσαλονίκης - Άγκυρας, με αεροσκάφη Airbus 320, 174 θέσεων.
