LISBON Treaty gives the European Parliament a greater role For the first time, as a result of the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty, the members of the European Parliament, by majority, will elect the new European Commission President. This will be on the basis of a proposal made by the European Council, by qualified majority, and taking into account the results of the May Elections. The debate will start at 21:00 CET (19:00 GMT) and will last 90 minutes, divided into three segments focussing on different themes. It will be moderated by the well-known Italian anchor Monica Maggioni, Director of RAI News24, in the presence of a Pan-European audience (300-500 people) and representatives of the press. Technical details The debate will be held mainly in English. Interpretation will be provided by the European Parliament in the official 23 EU languages. Broadcasters may prefer to subtitle the debate themselves. Social media interaction will be put integrated and projected on a screen behind the live debate. The hashtag #TellEurope enables citizens to join in the debate, now already, to share their opinions on European issues. Respect of the Eurovision copyright and disclaimer for interpretation are essential. Further details on distribution and terms of use have been established between Eurovision and the Political Parties and will be communicated in due time.
