Beyonce may have shut down the Super Bowl and Katy Perry may rival the King of Pop for most No. 1 singles; but when it comes to the radio airwaves, Rihanna rules.
Thanks to her latest hit song “Stay,” the beauty from Barbados now holds the distinction of being the artist with the most No. 1s on pop radio, according to Billboard. Her record of 10 is the most in the pop song radio airplay chart’s 20-year history.
Rihanna was tied with friend and fellow singer Katy Perry before “Stay” put here atop the pop throne. Her radio domination began in 2006 when “SOS” spent one week on the chart. From there came a string of albums, each with its own radio-friendly singles waiting to be consumed by the Rihanna Navy.
The 25-year-old, who also is known for her tumultuous relationship with Chris Brown and an ever-expanding body tattoo collection, has released an original album nearly every year since her debut. The only exception was 2008, when she re-released “Good Girl Gone Bad.”
What may surprise some fans about this extensive collection of No. 1 radio songs is the absence of “Umbrella” on the list. The 2007 anthem is the song some credit with making Rihanna a household name.
