Αχινός: Τα οφέλη από την κατανάλωσή του
Ο ζωντανός αχινός πέρα από την παροιμιώδη νοστιμιά του, -στην Ιαπωνία μπαίνει στην ίδια σειρά με το χαβιάρι- είναι μια τροφή μεγάλης διατροφικής αξίας.
Αν προσωποποιούσαμε την αρμύρα της θάλασσας σε μερικές κουταλιές πολύτιμης γεύσης αυτές θα ήταν οι ζωντανοί αχινοί. Όταν τους γεύεσαι δίπλα στη θάλασσα, μόλις ψαρευτούν με το λεμόνι να κάνει την καλύτερη συνοδεία στην αρμύρα των αβγών τους, η απόλυτη απόλαυση απογειώνεται.
Ο αχινός ή εχίνος ή αχινιός είναι μικρό ασπόνδυλο θαλασσινό ζώο, ο οποίος ανήκει στην τάξη των εχινόδερμων και απαντάται σε όλες τις θάλασσες του κόσμου. Έχει σχήμα σφαιρικό και ο δερματοσκελετός του αποτελείται από πολλά μικρά ασβεστολιθικά πλακίδια, που είναι ενωμένα μεταξύ τους καθώς και αγκάθια που προστατεύουν το σώμα του και του επιτρέπουν να κινείται.Για την κίνησή τους χρησιμοποιούν και βαδιστικούς ποδίσκους που έχουν σχήμα σωλήνα. Τρέφονται με φύκια αλλά και με μύδια και άλλα ασπόνδυλα. Κυριότεροι εχθροί τους είναι οι αστερίες και δι
άφορα σαρκοφάγα ζώα και ψάρια της θάλασσας. Υπάρχουν 700 είδη αχινών, από τα οποία αρκετά είναι εδώδιμα και αποτελούν αλιεύματα. Τον βρίσκουμε στη λάσπη του βυθού, σε βραχώδη μέρη με φύκια. Η ύπαρξη αχινών θεωρείται ένδειξη καθαρής θάλασσας.
Μαρτυρίες για κατανάλωση αχινού στην Ελλάδα, υπάρχουν από το 3.000 π.Χ. και από το 1792 ήταν γνωστό σαν εµπορεύσιµο είδος. Είναι επίσης ισχυρή αφροδισιακή τροφή. Στην αρχαία Ελλάδα η χρήση του ως ξεχωριστό έδεσμα ήταν ευρεία. Παράλληλα αποτελούσε ιδανικό φάρμακο για αρκετές παθήσεις όπως η ψώρα, διάφορα έλκη, υπερσαρκώματα κ.α.
Στη ρωμαϊκή αρχαιότητα, ο αχινός λατρεύτηκε τόσο που υπάρχουν πολυάριθμες αναφορές του στις περιγραφές των πολυσυζητημένων ρωμαϊκών συμποσίων, με διάφορες παραλλαγές, ωμό, μαγειρεμένο ή σε σάλτσες. Οι αρσενικοί αχινοί δεν είναι βρώσιμοι. Είναι κατάμαυροι, έχουν μεγάλα αγκάθια και μεγαλύτερο χνούδι μπροστά στο στόμα τους, λέγονται δε συχνά “οβραίοι.” Οι θηλυκοί έχουν διάφορες αποχρώσεις του μαύρου -συχνά δυσδιάκριτες με το έντονο φως- μικρότερα αγκάθια και μας δίνουν τα υπέροχα αβγά του.Οι εποχές που θεωρούνται αυγωμένοι, δηλαδή γεμάτοι, είναι όταν το φεγγάρι είναι γεμάτο. Οι αχινοί δεν διατηρούνται για μέρες αλλά πάντα έχουν καλύτερη γεύση μερικές ώρες μετά, αφού τους ψαρέψουμε. Για να διατηρηθούν ζωντανοί, τους βάζουμε σε κουβά με θαλασσινό νερό ή στο ψυγείο με μια υγρή πετσέτα πάνω τους.
Αν μαζέψουμε μόνο τα αβγά, καλό είναι να τα φάμε σε λιγότερο από 12 ώρες από τότε που βγήκαν απ’ τη θάλασσα, έχοντάς τα διατηρήσει σε ψυγείο (σε θερμοκρασία 4º C). Είναι τροφή πλούσια σε πρωτεΐνες, βιταμίνη Α και D και κυρίως Β6 (1 κουταλιά της σούπας μπορεί να καλύψει το 20% των ημερήσιων αναγκών μας), θειαμίνη και νιασίνη, φώσφορο και ψευδάργυρο που ενισχύει το ανοσοποιητικό σύστημα και βοηθά την όσφρηση και την γεύση.
Η Β6 είναι υπεύθυνη για τον μεταβολισμό των μακροθρεπτικών συστατικών και επιδρά στη φυσιολογική λειτουργία του μυϊκού ιστού του εγκεφάλου και γενικότερα του νευρικού συστήματος. Επίσης, μια μόνο κουταλιά αχινοί μπορούν να καλύψουν το 12% των ημερήσιων αναγκών μας σε χοληστερόλη. Αποτελούν πολύ καλή πηγή ω-3 λιπαρών οξέων που προστατεύουν σημαντικά την καρδιακή λειτουργία. 100 γραμμάρια αχινών αποδίδουν 175 θερμίδες.

His estranged wife wanted to honour her late husband's wishes and bury him next to former Dolls stars Johnny Thunders and Jerry Nolan in Mount St Mary's cemetery in Brooklyn, New York, but officials at the morgue refused to release his body for burial because his remains were so decomposed. Clint Eastwood casts actual heroes
in train attack film
GETTY IMAGESClint Eastwood's new film about three Americans who stopped a terror attack on a train to Paris will star the real-life heroes of that 2015 incident.
Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos and Spencer Stone will play themselves in The 15:17 to Paris, based on the book they co-wrote with Jeffrey E Stern.
Actors will play younger versions of the trio in the film, which is thought to focus on the three men's friendship.
The men were awarded Legion d'honneur medals for their actions.
They also received a hero award from Eastwood himself at an awards ceremony last year.
Sadler, Skarlatos and Stone were among a number of passengers who overpowered a heavily armed man who had opened fire on the train.
Stone and Skarlatos were both off-duty servicemen, while Sadler was a student at California State University.
The man they apprehended was later named as Ayoub El-Khazzani, a Moroccan believed to have had links to radical Islam.
GETTY IMAGESThe film is the latest in a series of movies Eastwood has made based on real-life people in extraordinary situations.
His last film, Sully, told of pilot Chesley Sullenberger, who landed his damaged plane on the Hudson River in 2009.
If made, The 15:17 to Paris will not be the first fact-inspired film to feature non-actors in leading roles.
In 2012 release Act of Valour, real-life Navy Seals were shown embarking on a fictional covert mission.
There is a tradition, meanwhile, of the subjects of Hollywood biopics appearing in the films they inspired.
Jim Garrison had a small role in JFK, which dramatised his investigations into the Kennedy assassination, while lawyer Erin Brockovich made a cameo in the 2000 film about her life.
Another notable example is Audie Murphy, a decorated soldier who turned to acting after World War II and went on to play himself in the 1955 film version of his memoir To Hell and Back.

Live Aid: Rocking All Over The World
1985The Live Aid concerts take place in Philadelphia and London to raise money for the hungry in Africa. The Beach Boys, The Four Tops, Paul McCartney, Tina Turner, Elton John, David Bowie, The Who, Queen, Eric Clapton, and Bob Dylan all take part.
Live Aid is the brainchild of The Boomtown Rats singer Bob Geldof and Midge Ure of Ultravox. Billed as "The Global Jukebox," the all-day charity concert is held to raise money for relief efforts after a devastating famine in Ethiopia. The concert spans across two stages in two continents: JFK Stadium in Philadelphia and London's Wembley Stadium. As well as the 100,000 fans in the USA and 72,000 in the UK, the event is broadcast live across the world to an audience of around 2 billion people in 150 nations.
After seeing a news report on the drought and famine that swept across war-torn Ethiopia, Geldof was spurred into action and organized the recording of a single featuring dozens of British stars. The result: Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas?." American artists answered under the name USA for Africa with "We Are The World." Estimates vary as to the total raised by the concerts, but most agree the figure is at least $50 million. How much of that money reached the Ethiopian people is unclear; in 1986 Spin magazine issues a scathing report claiming that the money did more harm than good, with lots of it ending up in the pockets of Ethiopia's corrupt Head of State Mengistu Haile Mariam.

Mapping Motown: The Sites Sacred To the Sound

Detroit's Motown landmarks can be pretty hidden if you don't know what you are looking for. Fortunately BLAC published an excellent guide earlier this year to all the real estate (houses, recording locations, mansions!) important to that era of Detroit. Motown, the record company, was founded by Berry Gordy, Jr. in Detroit in 1959. Now take a tour of the city as he knew it, mostly in the 60s. Gordy moved his record company to LA in 1972.

1 Brewster Wheeler Recreaction Center
The Brewster Wheeler Rec Center is where Berry Gordy spent most of his time before investing in Hitsville. Built in 1917, the recreation center was originally used as a library. Gordy practiced boxing in the center while a hopeful singing group known as The Supremes used it as a rehearsal space. An aspiring boxer, Joe Louis, also trained at the center. The building sits vacant but the city is accepting proposals for development.

This is where all the magic began. Berry Gordy had a vision for the former photography studio and pursued it until his dream became a reality. Berry moved in with part of his family in 1959 and revamped the studio into one of the most legendary recording studio's in music history. Hits that reached the top of the charts from artists such as Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, The Jackson 5, The Four Tops and many more were made here. With the eventual end of the Motown Recording label in Detroit, the birth of the Motown Historical Museum began in 1985.

3 United Sound Systems Recording Studios
Notoriously known as the recording studio where Marvin Gaye recorded "What's Going On", United Sound Systems was a great alternative for Motown artists. Serving as a studio for Motown artists and other bands you may know including The Rolling Stones and The Red Hot Chili Peppers, United Sound arguably has just as much historical value as Hitsville. Today it's also used as a museum but can still be used for recording purposes after being originally founded in 1933.

6 Berry Gordy's Mansion
Also known as the "Motown Mansion", Berry Gordy lived large in his 1917-built mansion. Motown stars were over constantly at the 8,200 square foot property. After all, who wouldn't want to spend time in the home movie theater, or the olympic-size swimming pool, or the bowling alley at his place. Berry was able to attain the house by 1967, only 8 years after borrowing $800 from his family to purchase Hitsville.

This former Motown star's home does not seem to get the "Respect" it deserves. Aretha's old house is not in the best shape. When the Motown Stars hit the road for their Motortown Revue Tour, they were sure to stop by The Fox Theater in their home town Detroit. In 1966 it held the stars including Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, The Miracles, and The Marvelettes, all in one concert, for the whomping price of $2.50. The Howard Crane designed theater was opened in 1928 and stills hosts shows today, but not for $2.50.

In the decades before streaming-era rules and digital downloads inflated album sales, platinum certification was more difficult for artists to obtain.
When an artist achieved platinum status back then — selling a million or more physicalcopies of an album — it took a greater, more fervent effort from fans (driving to record stores, finding an album, handing over your hard-earned cash for it), but many acts reached platinum certification routinely nonetheless.
Using RIAA data, we ranked the best-selling artists of all time by the number of platinum albums they've sold in the US.
While some of the results are surprising — country singer Garth Brooks, for instance, has the most diamond (or 10-times platinum) albums of all time with seven — the legendary acts sitting atop the list are the ones you'd probably expect.

Quentin Tarantino has a new movie in the works — here are his other films, ranked from best to worst

Since his feature debut "Reservoir Dogs" came out in 1992, Quentin Tarantino has established himself as one of the greatest filmmakers of all time — if not always the most varied.
From "Pulp Fiction" to "Django Unchained," his style is defined by a mix of shocking violence and humor.
Tarantino is currently at the beginning stages of a new project, said to be about the Manson Family murders.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Lawrence have been approached to star. Deadline also says Tarantino has approached "Suicide Squad" star Margot Robbie to take on the role of Sharon Tate, the star who was murdered by Manson's followers.
Here is a ranking of all of Tarantino's films, starting from the worst and going to the best. But hey, even the worst ones are still pretty great:
9. "Death Proof" (2007)
Tarantino’s worst outing as a director requires some context. “Death Proof” was one half of “Grindhouse” (the other was Robert Rodriguez’s “Planet Terror”), an experimental double feature meant to recreate the experience of the schlocky B-movies of the 1970s.
The problem with “Death Proof” is that it feels half-assed. Tarantino is so good with homage, but this still feels lazy. Tarantino’s signature long conversations don’t work for a film this short. Even with a stellar ending and a great performance from Kurt Russell, “Death Proof” feels like the first time in Tarantino’s career when he didn’t just go for it.
8. "Jackie Brown" (1997)
“Jackie Brown” had the unfortunate timing of being Tarantino’s follow-up to “Pulp Fiction.”
No matter what he did next, it was bound to not live up to monumental expectations. When “Jackie Brown” first came out in 1997, people missed one of Tarantino’s smartest and most understated movies, if not his most thrilling.
7. "Django Unchained" (2012)
“Django Unchained” is Tarantino’s most polarizing work to date, and for good reason. It asks a lot of challenging questions about slavery and whether it gives the right answers is entirely up to the viewer.
"Django" is boosted by some strong work from Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Samuel L. Jackson. Maybe the biggest thing running against it is that, at two hours and 45 minutes, it would have been much better if the filmmakers trimmed it down by about an hour.
6. "The Hateful Eight" (2015)

"The Hateful Eight" is the most Tarantino film ever made. It's overstuffed with so much dialogue and self-indulgence that it could almost be a play. But man, if Tarantino doesn't know how to do Tarantino well.
The film also veers toward a more traditional structure, but with a twist. Sure, maybe the first half is a bit weaker than the second. But even after the first half ended, I knew that one viewing of “The Hateful Eight” would not be enough.
5. "Reservoir Dogs" (1992)
While some filmmakers stumble in their debuts, Tarantino announced exactly who he is from the start.
"Reservoir Dogs" is scrappy, but it still holds up well. From the snappy and brilliant dialogue to the shocking violence (which is actually filmed with some restraint, especially during the film's most infamous moment), this is a film that doesn't stop from the moment it starts. It's as tense as it is funny, and still a great introduction to the rest of Tarantino's career.
4. "Kill Bill: Vol. 1" (2003)
On a personal note, this is the Tarantino movie that got me hooked on both Tarantino and movies in general. It's no wonder.
"Kill Bill: Vol. 1" is a brilliant genre mash-up that never loses its touch, even after countless viewings. It mines severed limbs for laughs while also telling a very humane revenge tale. This was the role that Uma Thurman was born to play. (It also helps that her and Tarantino wrote it together.)
Introduce "Vol. 1" to somebody looking to get into movies. They'll immediately be renting a steady stream of Westerns, gangster pictures, and samurai epics.
3. "Kill Bill: Vol. 2" (2004)

While "Kill Bill" was originally meant as one long film, both parts stand up incredibly well on their own. "Vol. 2" rises above its excellent predecessor by dialing it down a notch.
This is one of Tarantino's slowest, least violent films. It is also one of his most emotionally rich, anchored by David Carradine, who gives a legendary performance as the villainous Bill. His speech about why he loves Superman stands out as perhaps the best thing Tarantino has ever written.
2. "Inglourious Basterds" (2009)

Quentin Tarantino said the opening of "Inglourious Basterds" is one of his two favorite scenes he's ever written. Re-watch it in its entirety, and you will understand why.
"Inglourious Basterds" is both a revenge fantasy and an antiwar tale. What really makes it pop, though, is the performance by Christoph Waltz as Colonel Hans Landa. The role is almost bigger than the movie itself. Luckily, he's got a great movie to stand in front of.
1. "Pulp Fiction" (1994)
This seems like the obvious choice, but that's only because it's the only logical choice. "Pulp Fiction" announced Tarantino as a genius, and it might just be the coolest film ever made.
Calling this No. 1 just feels like an instinct for me. Whenever this comes on TV, I sit down and watch it, no matter how censored it is, and recite every line along with it. There is a reason "Pulp Fiction" was and still is called revolutionary. It's one of few movies that can sustain excitement with long conversations about foot massages. It hops through time organically. It kills off a main character and then brings them back like nothing ever happened. There is always something thrilling about watching "Pulp Fiction."
Since "Pulp Fiction" first made waves in 1994, numerous filmmakers have tried to imitate the film's unique style. Many tried, and most failed, for one reason alone: They aren't Quentin Tarantino.

Chaos Ensues At Ill-Fated Disco Demolition Night
1979It's "Disco Demolition Night" at Comiskey Park, where the White Sox and Tigers are playing a doubleheader. The plan is to blow up a bunch of disco albums between games, but it goes horribly wrong when fans become unruly and rush the field, forcing the White Sox to forfeit the second game.
The White Sox aren't having a very good season, but not all hope is lost. At least when it comes to ticket sales. Mike Veeck, the team's promotions director, figures he can capitalize on the burgeoning anti-disco trend to fill out a couple thousand more seats in the stadium for the White Sox/Tigers doubleheader.
Disco exploded worldwide two years earlier with the premiere of Saturday Night Fever, starring John Travolta as an aspiring dancer who shows off his moves to the beat of a groovy Bee Geessoundtrack. As radio stations begin to favor disco over rock, spinning tunes from the Bee Gees, Gloria Gaynor, Donna Summer, and KC & The Sunshine Band, rock fans look for ways to rebel against the polyester genre. One rock fan in particular leads the pack.
Chicago DJ Steve Dahl was fired from a local radio station that switched to a disco format and found a home at a rival rock station, where he encourages listeners to fight "the dreaded musical disease known as DISCO." When Veeck hears of Dahl's intention to blow up disco records at a mall, he invites him to do it at Comiskey Park. Dahl spreads word of the disco inferno: Any fan that shows up with a disco record will be admitted for .98, a nod to sponsoring station 97.9 WLUP-FM, and can watch Dahl destroy the collection on the field.
As a result, over 50,000 people show up for the game, most of them rock fans eager to watch disco die a fiery death. Veeck didn't hire enough security to cover such an onslaught, and thousands of fans rush the field when Dahl triggers the explosion. Not only does the demolition blow a hole in the grass, but fans do their own damage by climbing poles, pulling up bases, storming the dugout, and setting fire to more records. Needless to say, it's game over for the White Sox, who are forced to forfeit the second game.
For some, the melee represents more than a hatred of disco. Because the genre has its roots in gay culture and is often performed by African American artists, accusations of homophobia and racism are hurled at those involved, mostly young white males. Disco Demolition Night goes down in history as the beginning of the end of disco…for a few decades.
The disco sound comes back to life in the '10s when hitmakers Nile Rodgers (of Chic) and Giorgio Moroder return to the fold. Moroder, the music producer who helped transform Donna Summer into a disco queen, and Rodgers collaborate with Daft Punk on their disco-infused Random Access Memories album, which lands the group multiple Grammy wins, including Album of the Year - proof that disco is, dare we say, stayin' alive.

The awards are based on traveler ratings and reviews, and include everything from the best destinations to the best travel companies.
Below are the 15 top-rated cities to visit in the world.
Although Asian cities dominated the list — taking seven out of the 15 spots — this year's winner is San Miguel de Allende in Mexico, a city that has never been featured on the list before.
Charleston, South Carolina, and Santa Fe, New Mexico, were the only two US cities to make it onto the list. This is the fifth year that Charleston has been rated the best city in America.

«Έφυγε» από τη ζωή σε ηλικία 74 ετών ο τραγουδιστής Γιάννης Καλατζής, όπως έγινε σήμερα γνωστό στα μέσα κοινωνικής δικτύωσης από αναρτήσεις συνεργατών και φίλων του.
Ο Γιάννης Καλατζής, ο οποίος γεννήθηκε στη Θεσσαλονίκη το 1943, ήταν ιδιαίτερα δημοφιλής στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του '60 μέχρι και τα μέσα της δεκαετίας του '70. Η καριέρα του ξεκίνησε στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του '60, όταν ήταν μέλος του Τρίο Μορένο στη Θεσσαλονίκη. Αργότερα εγκαταστάθηκε στην Αθήνα, όπου αρχικά συνεργάστηκε με τον γνωστό συνθέτη Γιώργο Μητσάκη. Η δημοφιλία του κορυφώθηκε μέσα από τις συνεργασίες με τους πιο διάσημους Έλληνες συνθέτες της περιόδου, τον Μάνο Λοΐζο, τον Σταύρο Κουγιουμτζή, τον Γιώργο Κατσαρό, τον Μίμη Πλέσσα, τον Γιάννη Σπανό και τον Τόλη Βοσκόπουλο.
